So, after discussion with my father, a Greek scholar-omicron is actually a Greek letter-they skipped nu-too confusing with mu, a previous variant, and also skipped xi, might offend all the Chines speakers. Don't ask where zeta, eta and theta, previous letters went, because who knows??

So, after discussion with my father, a Greek scholar-omicron is actually a Greek letter-they skipped nu-too confusing with mu, a previous variant, and also skipped xi, might offend all the Chines speakers. Don't ask where zeta, eta and theta, previous letters went, because who knows??
The omicron variant, at this point is not as scary as they make it sound. Per the S. African doctors, who were correct, the variant had already spread before the ban on travel, to multiple countries. In fact, in Norway there was a dinner party held with only vaccinated employees: approx. 120, 64 of which have subsequently tested positive for Sars-19. Apparently several of the employees had recently returned from S. Africa where they were working on a solar install As noted in the African countries, symptoms, if any, are generally mild: headache, sore throat, congestion, and many did not have any symptoms at all. To date, no one has been hospitalized.
The concern by scientists, is the number of mutations the omicron variant carries and that these might recombine with other strains to create a more virulent strain and/or be resistant to the currently available vaccines. Time will tell... and I will update as new info becomes available.
